Super Mario Galaxy Film Teaser Arrives, Unveiling Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors

Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the upcoming animated film.

The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the universe. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.

A Cosmic Adventure Inspired by Classic Games

Much like the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a breakout star from the original cinematic release.

However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who reportedly commands metallic abilities. Notably, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also includes nods to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Returns and Expands

The film will welcome back of the initial voice actors, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

New additions to the ensemble for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The new Mario movie is planned to debut close to the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Beyond the film, 2026 promises to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.

Nintendo confirmed a set of three fresh titles publicly declared for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Release Date Confirmed

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
